Getting behind the wheel of a car is a risk taken by drivers every day. The risk of a car accident can be substantially increased for even the safest of drivers when alcohol is consumed by individuals on the roadways. A recent crash in South Carolina proved to be fatal for one individual and injured others.

The accident involved two vehicles, a pickup truck and a car. While traveling south on a local road, the car was struck head on by the pickup that crossed the center line. The 20-year-old driver behind the wheel of the pickup truck is now facing a felony DUI charge, because the driver of the other vehicle lost his life.

Several others suffered injuries in the accident and are currently being hospitalized. One passenger from the car was reportedly airlifted from the accident. The pickup driver, who now faces felony charges, along with a passenger, were uninjured in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

In addition to the felony DUI charge the 20-year-old driver is facing, he could also eventually encounter charges in a South Carolina civil court. The deceased victim’s family could have the right to file a wrongful death claim, and the victims who suffered injuries may be entitled to file personal injury claims. Monetary relief gained from a successful lawsuit may be used toward many of the unfortunate expenses that come from a tragic car accident. While it may prove difficult to overcome the damage and harm from a horrific incident, any awarded compensation can greatly help with the victims’ pain and suffering.
