Even a motorcycle accident which results in serious injuries often ultimately ends up as a fatality. Motorcyclists are often vulnerable on the road and can especially be prone to injury or death due to the lack of safeguards against a car or a truck. Unfortunately, a 42-year-old South Carolina woman from Lancaster has died as a result of the injuries she sustained in a motorcycle accident a week before.

The accident happened around 4:45 p.m. on a Saturday in June when the woman was headed westbound on South Carolina 5 on her motorcycle. As she was riding, a vehicle traveling eastbound on the highway turned left across the highway — right into the path of the motorcycle. Tragically, the two vehicles collided.

The biker, who had not been wearing a helmet, was transported to a nearby hospital via air ambulance. There, medical staff did their best to keep her alive; however, their efforts were ultimately in vain. Just short of a week after the accident, the woman passed away in the hospital as a result of her injuries.

The motorcycle accident is still under investigation, and it is uncertain whether charges will be filed. As the investigation continues, it is hoped that other drivers on the road will be more careful and look out for motorcycles. It is not yet known if the surviving family has decided to pursue a civil claim in the form of a wrongful death action against parties they deem to have negligently caused the fatal collision.
