Nearly everyone knows that there are legal repercussions for fleeing the police. However, when a person suspected of a crime flees in a vehicle, the danger to innocent people increases exponentially. Police say that a South Carolina man was being pursued following a domestic disturbance, which ultimately ended in a car accident involving three vehicles. One person died and two suffered injuries.

Police say that a 19-year-old man illegally entered an apartment, and a firearm was discharged. He then took off, and the pursuit began. At some point during the chase, the man’s vehicle slammed into two other cars. The vehicle was traveling so fast that, before the three-vehicle crash was over, it flew into the air and into a garage where it flipped onto its roof.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team was called in to conduct the investigation into the incident. As part of the inquiry, any witnesses are being asked to come forward. The driver is facing a litany of charges connected to the death of the victim and the injuries suffered by the other party involved in the crash. Additional charges are connected to the domestic incident.

Depending on the severity of the injuries suffered by the surviving victim, he or she may be able to file a personal injury claim against the accused driver. Further, the family of the deceased victim may file a wrongful death claim. If the parties are successful in proving negligence, the court may award damages. Any financial restitution received could help defray the monetary losses that ordinarily accompany a fatal car accident.
