South Carolina has its share of impaired drivers. Each year, those drivers cause serious accidents and even deaths when they get behind the wheel of their cars. Occasionally, drivers fail to understand that their actions have consequences that impact, not only them, but others as well. For instance, one recent auto accident that took the life of a 41-year-old man may have involved alcohol.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol suspect the driver believed to have caused the crash was impaired. The driver in question was apparently traveling the wrong way down Interstate 20 before smashing into another vehicle. He and his passenger suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The current conditions of the two survivors are not known.
The driver of the other vehicle did not fare as well. Emergency personnel managed to get the man to a hospital, but his injuries were too great. Despite receiving medical assistance, the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
As part of the investigation into this tragedy, authorities report the wrong-way driver is charged with felony DUI in connection with this recent accident. A search of his background revealed it is not the first time the driver has faced DUI charges. In fact, his license was suspended at the time of this crash. This and other information about the driver could prove useful to both the family of the deceased victim and the passenger in the suspected drunk driver’s vehicle. A civil court may award damages if negligence can be proved in connection with this auto accident.
