Sadly, one of the most common causes for a car accident is when intoxicated drivers are out on the road. Often, their vision and reflexes are impaired to such a point that they completely lack the coordination necessary to drive, yet their senses are also impaired in such a way they believe that they are capable of driving. This, unfortunately, is the catalyst for many collisions, including one recent South Carolina car accident which left one dead.

The incident occurred when an 18-year-old man who was allegedly intoxicated was driving on U.S. 17 in South Carolina. For some reason, he veered off the northbound lane, crossed the grass median, and crashed head-on into a van traveling in the southbound lane. The force of the crash was so great that both vehicles overturned.

The 18-year-old driver, his passenger, and all five occupants of the van were taken to nearby medical centers for treatment. Tragically, one of the passengers in the van died in the collision. The South Carolina Highway Patrol has arrested the 18-year-old driver and charged him with two counts of felony DUI, one count involving great bodily harm and the other involving death.

In addition to these criminal charges, it is understandable that the families of the victims may be interested in filing additional claims against the driver. These claims may be able to give them monetary compensation for any medical expenses that they have received, as well as any pain and suffering encountered as a result of the accident. Furthermore, the family of victim who died in the tragic accident may be able to receive compensation for any final expenses that may be incurred.
