The South Carolina Highway Patrol has been able to locate the vehicle and driver they believe was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a motorcycle. The two people on the motorcycle died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the motorcycle accident. The driver of the vehicle that police believe hit the motorcycle has been charged with two counts of fleeing the scene with the aggravated circumstance of death.
The two people on the motorcycle were a man and his stepson. Neither one was wearing a helmet when a vehicle ran them down. Both were thrown off of the motorcycle. The stepfather died at the scene.
The young boy was taken to a hospital where medical personnel attempted to save his life. Sadly, they were unsuccessful, and the boy died at the hospital. The bodies of the victims have been released to the family to be buried.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol did not give any indication as to why the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of this tragic motorcycle accident. The family of the victims may someday find out exactly what happened that night and why they were left to die by the driver that hit them. Seeking justice on behalf of the victims, the family has the right to file a civil action against the driver. No amount of monetary compensation will ever be able to restore this stepfather and son to their family, but a successfully litigated claim may give the family a sense of closure and peace that they were able to do something on their behalf.
