Most South Carolina workers know that they are eligible to receive workers’ compensationbenefits if they are injured at work. However, knowing what those benefits are may not be as widely known. One goal of the benefits is to get you back to work after being injured on the job.

The first benefit most people are aware of is medical care. Reasonable costs of treating and recovering from the injury are covered by the employer’s workers’ compensation insurance. Covered services include things such as bills from medical care providers, any prescriptions and may perhaps reimbursement for mileage to and from medical treatment facilities.

Temporary disability benefits can cover the loss of income incurred during recovery from an injury. If a complete recovery is not possible, permanent disability may be received. The requirements and amounts of disability payments depend on several factors, which vary from case to case.

In some cases, a South Carolina employee is not able to return to his or her former position due to temporary medical restrictions or permanent injury. An employer is not required to provide an employee with a position similar to the one in which the injury occurred. Therefore, vocational rehabilitation benefits may be granted in order to provide the worker with the tools necessary to find another position either with the same company or elsewhere.

Obviously, this is not an exhaustive or particularly detailed explanation of the benefits available to someone injured on the job. Nor should this article be considered legal advice on obtaining benefits. In order to be sure that you receive all of the benefits to which you are entitled, a thorough review of your circumstances is necessary.
